4/20 Fatigue: Legacy Cup Cancelled

Somewhere in the haze of 4/20, it dawned on me—wasn’t there supposed to be something happening at Civic Plaza?

There was. It showed up, did its thing, and disappeared without much noise. Online, it barely registered. The few who were there described it as “interesting,” at best, which tells you just enough.

Then I was like, wasn’t there suppose to be another award show too—the Legacy Cup. Originally slated for March 21st, it never made it off the ground. Canceled quietly, chalked up to lack of preparation and even less participation. Truth is, priorities shifted. Taxes are due, budgets have tightened, and the appetite for an award show just wasn’t there—especially with last years leaving a sour taste.

For me personally, the best part of the Essie’s wasn’t the stage or the awards—it was the people. Familiar faces, industry crews, shooting the shit while a rotation made its way around. That’s where the vibe actually felt alive.

Donny Romero at Pharmers tried on my jacket—don’t be surprised if he shows up next time dripping in Southwest gear.

Spent some time with the crews from P37 and Enchanted Botanicals. Two banners that have something most companies can only dream of: a solid team of “professional stoners”, passionate individuals who actually consume, and know how to run a successful operation.

But I digress, It’s easy to sit back and take shots at events that may have missed their summit. Anyone who’s planned an event knows these things are a grind. Working with vendors, planning food and entertainment is a work, but sometimes if you want something better you have to do it yourself…
