While everyone's talking about how AI is going to change the future, we've been using it to build practical business tools today. Our platform of choice has been AppSheet, Google's no-code application builder that sits on top of Google Sheets. Since most of our clients already manage their operations in Google Sheets or Excel, it made more sense to build where their data already lives rather than asking them to migrate to an entirely new system.

What is Appsheet?
AppSheet is Google's no-code application development platform that allows individuals and organizations to build custom business applications without writing traditional software code. Instead of programming, apps are built by connecting to existing data sources and configuring the application's behavior through visual tools.
AppSheet uses spreadsheets, databases, and cloud services as its backend, allowing businesses to transform their existing data into mobile and web applications. Task Bar Functions
Data (connected nodes icon) - This is where you connect your app to data sources such as Google Sheets, Excel, SQL databases, or other supported platforms. You define tables, columns, relationships, data types, and validation rules that serve as the foundation of the application.
Views (blue list icon) - Views determine how users see and interact with your data. Here you build forms, tables, detail views, dashboards, maps, charts, calendars, and configure the app's navigation.
Actions (lightning bolt icon) - Actions are buttons or commands that allow users to perform tasks with a single tap. They can update data, navigate between views, open links, execute grouped actions, or automate repetitive user tasks.
Bots (robot icon) - Bots automate business processes by responding to events such as new records, updates, or scheduled times. They can send emails, generate documents, update records, call APIs, and execute multi-step workflows without user intervention.
Chat Apps (chat bubble icon) - Chat Apps allow your AppSheet app to integrate with conversational interfaces such as Google Chat. They enable users to interact with app data and workflows directly through chat instead of opening the mobile application.
Intelligence (light bulb icon) - Intelligence provides AI-powered capabilities for your app. Features include document processing, OCR, data extraction, AI-generated summaries, and other machine learning tools that enhance workflows.
Security (shield icon) - Security controls who can access the application and what data they can view or edit. This includes authentication providers, user permissions, security filters, and other settings that protect sensitive information.
Settings (gear icon) - Settings contains the global configuration for your application. You can configure branding, app behavior, offline functionality, localization, performance settings, and other application-wide preferences.
Manage (lifeline icon) - Manage provides administrative tools for maintaining your app after deployment. It includes deployment status, app versions, user management, licensing, monitoring, audit history, and usage analytics.
Learn (graduation cap icon) - Learn contains AppSheet documentation, tutorials, sample applications, release notes, and educational resources. It's designed to help builders understand platform features and learn best practices for developing applications.

Bots & Automations
One of the biggest strengths of AppSheet is combining Actions (what happens when a user taps a button) with Bots (what happens automatically when an event occurs). Together, they can eliminate repetitive work and enforce consistent business processes.
Examples of Actions
Update Inventory Status - A button that changes a product from "Pending QA" to "Approved" without opening the record.
Create a Child Record - Tap a button on a purchase order to automatically create a receiving record with prefilled information.
Navigate to Another Screen - After submitting an inspection, automatically open the vehicle's maintenance history.
Open Google Maps - Launch navigation to a customer, grow facility, or warehouse.
Call or Email a Contact - Tap a button to call a driver, vendor, or store manager.
Generate a New Inspection - Create a new vehicle inspection using information from the previous inspection.
Mark a Task Complete - Change the task status, record the completion time, and save the user who completed it.
Bulk Update Records - One button updates dozens of related records at once, such as marking every package on a pallet as "Loaded."
Scan and Receive Inventory - Scan a barcode and automatically update the item's location and receiving status.
Open External Systems - Launch BioTrack, Dutchie, Google Drive, or another web application directly from a record.
