Trulieve Preparing More Texas Stores

New construction records reviewed by The Marijuana Herald reveal that Trulieve Cannabis Corp. is preparing a considerably larger Texas retail network than previously reported.

The company had already been linked to proposed dispensaries in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio.

Seven additional projects have now been identified.

Those include locations in Houston, Midland, Lubbock, Corpus Christi, El Paso and Longview, with two planned Houston locations.

That brings the identified pipeline to at least 10 proposed dispensaries across nine cities.

The seven newly identified projects represent approximately 17,690 square feet of planned retail space.

Three locations—Midland, Lubbock and Longview—are listed as having completed building-accessibility inspections.

However, these are construction records, not final dispensing authorizations. Trulieve has not announced opening dates for the locations.

Deep Pockets

Texas has historically maintained one of the country’s most restrictive medical programs.

The Texas Compassionate Use Program began in 2015 and operated for years with only three licensed dispensing organizations.

That changed with House Bill 46, which expanded the program and established a pathway for additional operators.

In December 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety selected Trulieve for conditional approval.

The department subsequently revised portions of its selection methodology in May 2026.

Conditional approval remains distinct from final authorization to cultivate, manufacture or dispense products.

Trulieve’s strategy also extends beyond retail real estate.

The company previously disclosed plans to establish a retail presence across all 11 Texas public-health regions and has secured rights to produce and distribute Alien Labs and Connected products in the state, subject to regulatory approval.

Texas is becoming a serious infrastructure investment story.

A company preparing 10 locations before final dispensing authorization is making a substantial commitment to a market whose commercial potential remains dependent on regulatory execution.

There is also a distribution problem worth watching.

Texas is geographically enormous.

A medical operator serving patients across the state needs more than stores. It needs dependable inventory replenishment, transportation, production planning and systems that connect dispensing locations to a centralized operation.

The competitive advantage may ultimately belong to whoever builds the most reliable statewide distribution network, not simply whoever opens the most storefronts.
