Cannabis Runs On Google
When most cannabis businesses get started, the first thing they do is set up email—usually with Google. Some upgrade to a paid Workspace plan so they can use a custom domain, but that’s typically where the exploration stops. They use Docs here and there. Maybe a Sheet for inventory or ordering. Drive for storage. And then, as the business grows, they turn to industry-specific platforms to handle the rest.
They sign up for menu systems. Wholesale portals. CRM tools. Inventory management software. Platforms like Dutchie and LeafLink are strong products and serve real needs. But what many operators don’t realize is this: those systems still require management. They still need clean data, structured workflows, staff oversight, and consistent input and output. The software doesn’t eliminate operational responsibility—it just changes where it lives.
At the same time, many businesses are already paying for Google Workspace without fully understanding what’s included. Beyond the popular apps like Docs and Sheets, Google offers tools for automation, dashboards, internal portals, mobile app building, shared permissions, and structured communication. The difference is that they aren’t pre-labeled “wholesale portal” or “CRM.” They’re flexible building blocks.
That flexibility is the advantage.
Google Workspace was designed as an ecosystem. Email connects to storage. Storage connects to documents. Forms feed into spreadsheets. Spreadsheets power dashboards. Calendars coordinate tasks. Automation ties it all together. Instead of buying a separate platform for every function, you can often build internal systems that accomplish similar goals—without stacking monthly software fees.
This doesn’t mean industry platforms are useless. They have their place. But understanding the tools you already have access to gives you leverage. It allows you to reduce redundancy, build customized workflows, and avoid paying for features you could replicate internally with structure and training.
Cannabis is operationally complex and cost-sensitive. Margins matter. Software expenses add up quickly. The more systems you layer on without understanding your core infrastructure, the more fragmented your operation becomes.
That’s why we’re launching Cannabis Runs on Google.
This series is about teaching operators how to fully understand and use the tools already inside their Workspace subscription. We’ll break down each app, show how they connect, and walk through practical workflows for wholesale management, cultivation organization, reporting, and internal CRM systems. The goal isn’t to replace every specialized tool overnight—it’s to help you operate smarter, reduce unnecessary costs, and build systems that actually work together.
If you’re ready to tighten your infrastructure and save money in the process, head to our Education section and follow the Cannabis Runs on Google series.
